About ADKMesh
Welcome to ADKMesh — a grassroots initiative to build a resilient, community-powered mesh network across the Adirondack Park.
We believe that communication should be accessible, decentralized, and resilient — even in the most remote backcountry. Whether you’re deep in the woods, living off-grid, or simply value privacy and preparedness, ADKMesh exists to help connect the unconnected.
Our Mission
ADKMesh is committed to:
- Expanding local mesh networking coverage using LoRa and Meshtastic technology.
- Empowering communities with open-source tools and education.
- Supporting emergency communication and digital independence in the Adirondacks.
- Promoting resilience and privacy through decentralized infrastructure.
Why It Matters
The Adirondack Park covers over 6 million acres of rugged wilderness, where cell service is limited — or nonexistent. In emergencies, disasters, or even routine outdoor adventures, being able to communicate without relying on commercial networks can be a lifesaver.
We aim to build and support a long-range, low-power communication backbone that can bridge trails, homes, camps, and small towns — securely, privately, and sustainably.
How It Works
Using LoRa-based radios, solar power, and open-source firmware like Meshtastic, we’re deploying a growing network of low-cost nodes to relay encrypted messages across the terrain. These nodes are:
- Low-power and long-range (up to 5–10 miles or more)
- Open-source and community-operated
- Useful for hiking, homesteading, emergency prep, and outdoor events
We also provide guides, pre-configured gear, and community support to help you build your own node and join the mesh.
Get Involved
ADKMesh is currently a solo-led passion project with future nonprofit goals. We’re building a foundation for:
- Volunteer-powered node expansion
- Community workshops
- Open-source documentation
- Donation-supported growth
You can:
- Join the mesh
- Follow our coverage map
- Support our mission (donations, hardware, hosting)
- Spread the word
Looking Ahead
We’re working toward becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with full transparency, public education, and sustainable funding models. Whether through grants, affiliate-supported gear, or community contributions, every effort goes back into expanding the mesh.
Together, we can build something that lasts — and stays free from centralized control.
